L’Ecoute’s main mission is facilitating the social integration of hearing impaired persons. In keeping with this mission, construction and refurbishing works will be undertaken mostly by deaf and/or hearing-impaired persons also affected by the explosion. In this manner, competent, yet marginalized, individuals will have the opportunity to work and provide for their own needs as well as for those of other victims.
Following the horrific explosion that destroyed a large part of Beirut on August 4th 2020, L’Ecoute created a crisis unit named « L’Habitat du Cœur » (Habitat of the Heart). This unit is comprised of engineers, architects, structural design experts, and interior designers working towards rebuilding and/or professionally refurbishing damaged houses.
Concurrently, we are also looking to provide psychological solace to the people affected by the explosion and have therefore put in place a team of therapists and spiritual counselors to help guide and give support to the victims of the explosion.
In light of this prevailing harrowing reality, we are launching an urgent humanitarian appeal to all donors to accompany us on our mission to physically renovate and refurbish Beirut and to provide psychological support to this city’s population in dealing with this trauma. Any donation, however slight, can help us achieve our mission.
Together we can rebuild and revive houses, streets and hearts.
